2002 Lew Brown Memorial Award
|
Each year, the Washington State Healthcare Safety Council (WSHSC) recognizes a single individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of health care safety.
The Lew Brown Memorial Award is presented each year in memory of Mr. Lew Brown, who was a loss control manager for a major insurance carrier and a member of the WSHSC for many years. Lew dedicated much of his career to the specialty of health care safety. He was always ready to go the extra mile to support health care safety issues.
Mary Whealdon, ER nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, was a recipient of the 2002 Lew Brown award due to her commitment to emergency preparedness efforts both locally and at the state level. She has been involved with Whatcom County Local Emergency Preparedness Committee, Washington State Hospital Association Emergency Preparedness Committee, Seattle-King County Disaster Medical Assistance Team, National Disaster Medical System, and the HAM Radio Association. We appreciate her efforts and enthusiasm in bringing forward ideas and recommendations to improve our hospital responses and knowledge level. She is truly deserving of this award and it speaks highly of her work to be recognized at the state level. Congratulations Mary!
